Triturating Juicers, Masticing and Centrifugal Juicers: Which to Choose?

Choosing the Best Juice Extractor

We don't want to purchase the cheapest juicing machine or the most expensive juice extractor just because it has all the bells and whistles. The most significant part of your purchase when searching for the best juice extractor should be more about the machine functionality which functions exactly the way you want it to. Even though there are numerous juice extractors on the market to choose from, it is nice to know that there are only three basic types: Centrifugal Juicers, Masticating Juicers and Triturating Juicers.

Centrifugal Juice Extractors:

centrifugal juicers
Centrifugal Juicers are made with powerful high-speed motors that make juicing fast and easy. The motors can run anywhere between 3000 RPM up to 7000 RPM. This makes these juicers the fastest in the market. If you have limited time in your day and want to make fresh juice as quickly as possible then the Centrifugal Juicer is your best choice. It is generally the cheapest  of the various electric juicers available so they also a great option for a limited budget. Centrifugal Juicers function by placing the produce into a feed chute where it comes into contact with a round spinning grater blade that looks the same as a cheese grater. The high-speed of this disc then grates and grinds down produce quickly. After that, the centrifugal force created by the high RPM's separates the extracted juice from the pulp allowing the juice to run out into the collecting container.

However, there are also several draw backs for a Centrifugal Juice machine.

  1. It is noisy because of the sheer power at which it operates.
  2. A lot of heat is generated because of its high RPM which kills off some of the enzymes and antioxidants in the fruits and vegetables it juices. Producing a slightly less nutritious juice.
  3. Centrifugal Juice machines are not good at juicing leafy greens and can't juice wheat grass.

Masticating Juice Extractors:

Masticating Juicers extract juice by a different mechanism. It uses a single gear through which produce is broken down slowly and extensively to bring out a considerable amount of juice. The juice yield, and also the nutritional value, is higher compared to a Centrifugal Juicer. The operation's slow speed drastically decreases the amount of heat that fruits and vegetables are subjected to in comparison to the Centrifugal Juicer. This preserves a lot more of the antioxidants and living enzymes, yielding a juice that is more health promoting. The low speed makes the Masticating Juicers very quiet machines. And so now we can see why Masticating Juicers are the popular option for those focused on making healthier juice.

Triturating Juice Extractors:

Triturating Juicers are the elite among juice extractors. It works in the same way as the Masticating Juicer but with two gears and not one. The gears are extremely close together and run side by side. As fruits or vegetables pass through the gears they get just about every last drop of juice squeezed out of them at a very slow rate. Triturating Juicers are a little more effective compared to a single gear Masticating Juicer and produce a higher yield and lesser oxidation. For this reason, Triturating Juicers give the best benefits of juicing. Furthermore, these juicers are exceptionally good for wheat grass juicing and are more expensive.
